What does this dashboard relate to?
The Drinking Water Quality (DWQ) dashboard provides the user with a National, Provincial presentation of Drinking Water Quality over a 12 month period. Drinking Water Quality Compliance comprises out of the following categories: Operational, Microbiological, Chemical & Physical. The compliance figure displayed is calculated based on actual samples taken and the result of tests conducted on South African National Standards: 241 Drinking Water Determinants within these categories. Monitoring compliance is also presented per category based on the number of tests done vs. the required number of tests as per the applicable sample programme.

What type/s of questions does the information product aim to answer:
The product provides the user with a view of the quality of drinking water within a given area in terms of Operational, Microbiological, Chemical & Physical compliance as well as the monitoring compliance for every category. Geographical representation of this data down to the lower level (WSA’s) is possible.The WSA view will be a rolled up view of all the WTW (Water Treatment Works)/Water Supply Schemes within the given WSA.

Data used to generate the information

What data is used?
Data is captured directly (by WSA’s/WSP) on the Blue Drop System Website (BDS). Calculations are automated in the BDS Website to determine compliance.

How is extracted and from where?
The data is extracted via Macro Planning processes and procedures from the Blue Drop System (BDS) database.

How often is it extracted?
The data is captured and compliances calculated on a daily basis. Data extracts are done on a monthly basis in order to build a 12 month period view.

That the user has been provided with access to Water Quality Compliance information on a National, Provincial, and municipal area. Data displayed is a reflection of data as entered by WSAs/WTW. Any WSA/WTW not entering information in the BDS will not be represented in NIWIS displayed data.
