It relates to an information system that can be used as a database on historic data, to store new information and provide information for water management decisions. This dashboard gives an indication of the number of Surface Water Reserves approved to date, for selected periods and the level of Reserve Determination (i.e. Desktop, Rapid, Intermediate and Comprehensive). It provides prudent and baseline information for reporting purposes on State of Water Resources, for planning and budgetary purposes, monitoring and auditing and input into new studies.
The dashboard aims to answer the following questions:
The data used to generate information is made available through a spreadsheet that is regularly updated with Surface water Reserve Information.
All Surface Water Reserve information is saved on the N-drive database and contains information about approved Reserves, reports, current studies as discussed under point 1 and 2.
It depends at which time information is requested or used from the dashboard i.e. accessing information before the database has been updated. Updating of the database will happen on a quarterly basis. There are risks in terms of the accuracy of importing the correct Reserve information and double checking it with the hard copy information, ensuring that old or dated Reserves are replaced with the latest update. The latter is amongst others important to avoid double counting etc. The advantages and disadvantage of this information system will only be fully realised once it has been used for a period and the glitches and challenges have been discovered to allow intervention to be put in place to work towards improvement of the system in future.
